How My Hero Academia Two Heroes Changed the Game for Superhero Movies

Parents need to know that My Academia: Two Heroes is a 2018 anime in which heroes-in-training must work together to rescue hostages from villains who have taken over a building on a floating island. Cartoon violence throughout, including characters getting shot and killed, blood, explosions, car chases, a burning building. The girls in the movie wear skimpy clothing -- revealing halter tops, short skirts and shorts. One of the heroes-in-training is motivated to save the day when he's told that girls love heroes and once he's shown to be heroic, he'll have a harem; he then chants "Harem! Harem! Harem!" repeatedly while running off to stop the bad guys. Occasional mild profanity ("bastard," "damn," "hell," "weak-ass"). One of the heroes-in-training, who yells at everyone around him, calls his rival a "damn nerd." Bad guys smoke cigarettes.

In MY HERO ACADEMIA: TWO HEROES, All Might is a superhero who shares a quirk with Izuku Midoriya, aka Deku, a student at the U.A. High School Hero Course. The two travel to I-Island, a floating island where scientists research quirks. All Might is reunited with his old friend, Professor David Shield, who lives on the island with his teen daughter Melissa. As Melissa shows Deku around the island, he discovers that many of his classmates happen to be there as well. Meanwhile, All Might seems to be losing his quirk and his superhero power, and asks Shield to keep it a secret. That evening, everyone attends a formal party. As the party kicks off, Deku and his friends are running late, and when they arrive, they discover that the villain Wolfram and his henchmen have taken the party hostage. Wolfram and his henchmen take Shield and his assistant Sam to break into the island's vault to gain access to a headset that maximizes the power of an individual's quirk, an invention of Professor Shield's. Now, Deku, and all his friends and rivals from the Hero Course must find a way to get up to the 200th floor of the building, reclaim the building's security system, and rescue the hostages, while also finding a way to restore All Might to his original superhero glory.

My Hero Academia Two Heroes

When establishing shots of Las Vegas are presented with the caption "California" in the opening scenes, you know you're in for some bizarre anime, and this movie delivers the weird. My Academia: Two Heroes has an anime cast of thousands, story threads galore, and a central narrative that is suspiciously similar to Die Hard. There's peril and melodrama, angsty superheroes-in-training, good versus evil. It can be overwhelming and chaotic at times, but the movie manages to stay entertaining, even for those who aren't the presidents of their hometown anime fan clubs.

New characters for the film include David Shield (voiced by Katsuhisa Namase), Melissa Shield (voiced by Mirai Shida), and Wolfram (voiced by Rikiya Koyama). Melissa is a quirkless girl whom Deku meets on I-Island, and her father David was a friend of All Might in his younger days. David is a scientist who makes hero support items, and Melissa works hard to follow in his footsteps. Wolfram is a leader of a mysterious villain team that aims to overthrow the Hero Society.

The film will be released in select countries across the UK and Ireland from 4th December 2018. It will be shown both with an English language dub, as well as the original Japanese with English subtitles. Your nearest showing can be found at myheroacademiamovie.co.uk.

A world where quirks exist is going to churn out some rather quirky characters. Whether heroes, villains, or somewhere in the vast grey area in-between, every person in the Boku no Hero Academia world deserves to have their story told. These are but tiny 100-word snippets of their lives, told one a day, every day, for 2023.

Being a Brazilian girl in Japan, having a Quirk as problematic as mine and attending the best hero high school in the country without any intention of becoming a Pro Hero was more than enough to make me stand out like a neon sign. Then I became an unofficial part of class 1-A. And then I fell in love with Todoroki Shoto.

Katsuki Bakugo, a young man with an explosive power and hellbent desire for the destruction of both heroes and villains suddenly gets his whole world flipped upside down after his defeat at the hands of a pro hero that ended up landing him in a prestigious hero school... the last thing that he needed. Watch as he navigates through the world of high school and the truth of his world of heroes and villains, where things aren't as black and white as he originally thought.

Whether that's only for heroes, or just to help the daily lives of normal Quirk-bearing citizens, we don't know. But, it's nice to see the sidekick and support side of MHA getting some limelight for once because it's very rare otherwise. And it's not just a bit of limelight either, this expo takes place on a manmade island in the middle of international waters! That's pretty huge.

Basically, Melissa is also Quirkless, just like Deku was. But, instead of trying to become a hero anyway, she becomes a genius-level support item inventor! It's a great way to show an alternative path Deku could've taken if he had not met All Might, considering how creative and smart he is.

So, there have been multiple interviews, one-shots, and little paragraphs at the back of Shonen Jump about Horikoshi's inspirations. It's obvious that he's a fan of Western Comics, and he himself has said that Spider-man is his favorite hero.

For everyone who grew up in the era of Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece, audiences have been starving for the next big shonen anime. My Hero Academia fills in the void left by the end of the former two, yet parts of the film highlight how the genre remains stagnant due to the all-too-familiar tropes. There simply are no real stakes in the movie, as the entire main crew of students and All Might make their way to an island as a metaphor for a self-contained story. Nothing that happens onscreen is meant to provide story or character analysis, but instead, gives audiences an entertaining mashup of the heroes working together.

I also felt at times this movie had pieces of a love letter to All Might. We finally spend some time with young All Might and his friends. We also see him put full trust in Deku and the other heroes in training when he is unable to save the day on his own. Midoriya, true to his character, motivates his team and makes them believe in themselves so that they save the day.

My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising follows the class of 1-A doing hero work on a remote island during their summer break. Busy but hardly challenged, the relative peace is shattered when four powerful villains make their way ashore looking for a young boy with a unique Quirk. 2ff7e9595c
